Project Overview
MagnetTx had developed groundbreaking technology that could transform cancer treatment by enabling unprecedented precision in targeting tumors. However, their Aurora RT system faced a critical challenge: how to translate complex medical technology into an intuitive, safe, and reassuring experience for both patients and clinical operators.
MagnetTx partnered with Onetwosix Design to find the balance between patient comfort, operator efficiency, with strict medical safety requirements.
Services Provided
This project involved redevelopment of the product enclosure, refinement for manufacturability, CAD and prototype iteration, and integration of brand-led visual elements into the final design.
Industrial design and housing redesign
Design for manufacturing and injection molding optimization
3D CAD modelling, prototyping, testing
Brand integration and visual design development

Before the Partnership
MagnetTx had developed revolutionary technology that represented a significant advancement in cancer treatment, but they faced unique design challenges that required specialized expertise:
The technology was functional, but intimidating to both operators of the machine and patients of the procedure
Hospital environments require seamless surfaces for cleaning and disinfection protocols
The system operates in both magnetic and radioactive environments, requiring materials and construction methods that could safely function under extreme conditions
Large motorized moving components demanded careful attention to operator and patient safety considerations
The engineering team had solved the technical challenges of merging MRI and radiation therapy, but needed a partner to design the enclosure and user interface that would work effectively in real clinical settings.

What We Did
Our role focused on translating MagnetTx's technical innovation into a design that would excel in real-world clinical environments, addressing both functional requirements and human factors:
Custom enclosure panel design with seamless forms optimized for hospital-grade cleaning protocols
Soft-touch interaction zones for operators, carefully positioned for accessibility and intuitive use during procedures
Patient-centric design language that reduces visual intimidation and anxiety associated with large medical equipment
Material specification and construction detailing compatible with magnetic and radioactive environments
Specialized Medical Environment Design
Working within the unique constraints of MRI and radiation therapy environments, we collaborated closely with MagnetTx's engineering team to research materials, design surfaces for safety and cleaning protocols, and optimize both patient comfort and operator workflows throughout treatment procedures.

Proven Results
The completed Aurora RT system successfully balances technical sophistication with human-centered design, creating measurable improvements across multiple dimensions:
The approachable design language and thoughtful interaction details help reduce patient anxiety during treatment procedures
Optimized operator interfaces support more efficient treatment delivery and better staff ergonomics
All design elements feature surfaces and materials that support rigorous hospital cleaning and disinfection protocols
The system's professional, patient-friendly appearance reinforces MagnetTx's position as an innovator in precision cancer treatment
Our human-centered design approach means the Aurora RT system is reassuring for patients, intuitive for operators, and visually sophisticated to match its technological breakthrough and premium positioning.
